Seahawks
Diabetes UK
Portsmouth
Welcome
Seahawks is a voluntary group whose purpose is to support families in the Portsmouth area who have a child with diabetes. We aim to provide emotional and practical help to families and to bring children and teenagers together so that they realise that they are not alone.
We have the full support of the paediatric diabetes staff at Queen Alexandra hospital. We are a self funding group and do not charge membership fees to join.
The group has set up local community networks and organises a range of events, meetings and activities to meet the needs of parents, children and teenagers from the point of diagnosis.
Having diabetes in the family is not something to be ashamed of - the group hopes to provide an opportunity for parents to share the trauma and to help their child or teenager to learn to manage the condition to lead a full and successful life like anyone else.
A child diagnosed with diabetes can affect the whole family, from siblings through to grandparents, the Seahawks group extends its support and welcomes all family members.
